Didgeridoo 154, E in Ash.
A lovely piece of pale Ash wood gathered near Arundel, West Sussex, on the chalky South Downs.

A good solid piece of timber, Ash makes lovely didges with a decent grain and produces wonderful resonance with a rich sound. The wood naturally bulges in a couple of places which I have tried to keep as it goes with the flowing lines.

I made the mouthpiece on this quite small as my aim was to produce a stick that plays percussive rhythms and sounds well. The didge is quite heavy compared to others I have made as I wanted to make a didge with thicker walls that alters the resonance. I believe I achieved what I was after. The didge plays around an E with C overtone but can easily go a couple higher.

The bore has been coated with several layers of Danish Oil to help protect, preserve and enhance the wood and maintain a crisp clear sound. The exterior has been coated with toy grade Finishing Oil leaving the didgeridoo with a soft vinyl like sheen.
