Dan Moi - a Vietnamese version of the Jew's Harp

I first saw and heard Dan Moi being played at 'The Gathering 2006', where I saw Jonny Cope play the most amazing music on a variety of instruments. From that moment on I was hooked, nay captivated. They are easy to play by all people of any age and great fun.

The Dan Moi (Vietnamese: Dan = instrument; Moi = Lip) is the name of the Jew's Harp from the Vietnamese mountain tribe, 'Hmong'. It is handcrafted from brass and unique in being very simple to play. It creates a rewarding sound full of brilliant overtones. In Italy the jew's Harp is called 'Scaccia pensieri' which means 'Thought Dispeller'.

Dan Moi come in many shapes and forms, pitch's, tones and sounds, and the name will vary depending on the area and country the instrument was made. They come as single items, double, triple and quad, made from metal, bamboo and all sorts of sizes.

These are, by far, the easiest to play that I have come across so far and unlike the Jew\s Harp there is no contact with teeth with the mouth acting as a resonating sound box. Each Dan Moi comes with a brief instructions on how to play.
